Light is the heartbeat of my work. Without it we cannot see.
More than a compositional device, the light carries profound theological and philosophical significance. The first of God's creations, light reveals truth and exposes what is hidden. Inspired by the classical tradition which seeks to elevate the mind and lift the soul, I pursue paintings that illuminate biblical truth with beauty.
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
John 1:5
My process is deliberate and prayerful, rooted in a biblical worldview. Every commission begins with prayer, Scripture, and — where appropriate — historical and archaeological study. The goal is to craft compositions that are faithful to the biblical text and rich in theological depth.
A rough composition takes shape as the vision becomes clear. This is presented to the client for approval, and revisions are made until the composition is set.
In the reference phase, I gather and create supporting materials — photographing costumed models, building 3D environments, and designing elements from imagination as needed — then synthesize them into a single cohesive reference image that honors the approved composition. Prayer and study continue throughout, deepening the piece’s emotional and spiritual resonance.
With the reference complete, I begin painting on Belgian linen, which I hand-stretch myself. I use Old Holland oils for their richness and permanence. Every painting is executed to archival standards so it may endure for generations as a lasting testimony.
Ultimately, this work is a spiritual endeavor carried out under the Lord’s direction. These paintings are instruments through which God often ministers to hearts in ways I could never orchestrate.
