The Good News Project

Illustrating Stories from the Bible

Oil paintings for an illustrated book, 11" x 8.5"

I am illustrating 8 Bible paintings for a book that will tell the story of Jesus and lay out the foundations of our Christian faith.

The book will be a simple, illustrated poem with a list of Scripture verses.

These paintings seek to ignite a curiosity to read those Scriptures through their beauty and depth of meaning, calling believers and non-believers into the hope of Christ.

The originals and prints will be available for sale when the project is finished. Below, you can learn more about the vision for each painting.

Updates on the Good News Project

Painting the Infant Jesus

I began this painting with the light shining on Jesus, from which everything else is illuminated.

Painting Evening Light

Painting the light first establishes visual hierarchy and will guide the entire composition.

Making the Composition

What is the message of the nativity, and how can I communicate it through my painting?

Painting Mary

Mary reflects the light of Christ and offers deep symbolism for us as the church.

Painting Joseph

Joseph with his arms shielding Mary & Jesus while looking up captures the nature of fatherhood.

Painting a Sacrificial Lamb

This lamb represents the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins. A lamb without blemish, one year old, and typically male.

Painting the Wolves

These wolves reference the massacre of the innocents and the depravity of humanity.

Painting the Manger

The manger, a food trough for animals, references Jesus as the "living bread."

Painting the Infant Jesus

Painting light to build form is theological as it is technical, for this oil painting of the birth of Christ.

“Now the earth was formless and empty….

And God said, “Let there be light.”
